RESEARCH PURPOSES
1.introduction
You are invited to take part in a research conducted within the framework of the project "ABSTRACTION". Before deciding whether to participate, it is important that you have all the information necessary to adhere in an informed and responsible manner. We ask you to read this document and to ask the person who proposed this study all the questions that it considers appropriate.
2. BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
The research project “ABSTRACTION” aims to explain how we extract meaning from experience through language. To achieve this, the researchers involved in the project will collect and analyze word ladders constructed by English and Italian speakers through the Word Ladders app.
3.WHAT DOES MY PARTICIPATION INVOLVE?
Participation in this research project involves therefore the generation of “word ladders”, namely, word associations produced in relation to an initial word, through the mobile app Word Ladders.
4.BENEFITS, INCONVENIENES AND/OR POTENTIAL RISKS INVOLVED IN PARTICIPATION
Participation in this part of the research project is voluntary and free. For the participants the collaboration does not involve any type of risk or discomfort. It could, however, be the case that some of the words suggested as prompts by the app may trigger in the participants negative emotions associated to personal past experiences. In this case, please consider withdrawing (see point 5).
5.WITHDRAW FROM RESEARCH
Participants have the right to withdraw at any time your consent to participation in this research, without notice or specific reason. To do so, they can simply uninstall the app.
6.INFORMATION ON RESEARCH RESULTS AND INCIDENTAL FINDINGS
Participants (and their legal guardians, in case of minors) have the right to request information on the results of the research and to know any unexpected incidental finding emerged on their account, using the Contact section.
7. MEASURES PLANNED TO PROTECT ANONYMITY
The processing of the collected data (date of birth, level of education, profession, mothertongue, reading habits) will be carried out in such a way as to eliminate any reference that may allow the reconnection of individual word associations to a specific person (we do not collect email accounts, name and surname and other sensitive data). The results of the research will be published in summary form and in no case any brief quotations will be ascribable to single persons.
